Register Learn to Sail Summer Feb 2024

The LTS course is designed for kids to try their hand at sailing in a fun and safe environment. This course uses Sabot sailing boats that offer an inexpensive, simple and reliable experience for kids. Our experienced coaches ensure that kids with little or no prior sailing experience can learn and enjoy sailing. Kids will be paired up with 2 allocated to each boat (one per boat for experienced sailors), preference for pairings can be sent to the course coordinator as required.

Parents are integral to this course and will be required to help the kids rig up and de rig/wash down the boats each week.

Registration

Website registration will be available on the WASC site.

On the Day

Classes kick off on the 10th where kids arrive at 8.00am to rig their boats, ready for an 8.30am class start. Classes will aim to finish at 10.00am with Kids (with Parents help) required to wash down and de-rig club boats and return to storage racks.

Equipment

Each participant will be provided with a fully rigged and insured club Sabot sailing boat for their use in the course. Please note club boat numbers are limited, so class will be closed off when maximum boat numbers are reached.

If the option to use your own boat is chosen, then you will be required to have it unloaded at the club and ready to rig from 8.00am

Clothing

Participants will be required to wear a hat and shoes that can be worn in the water. All Participants must wear an approved Level 50S life jacket (or greater) when sailing in the course). We do have limited life jackets that may be borrowed from the club on the day. We also recommended sunscreen, a spray jacket and possibly a wetsuit if it is cold.

Groups

Participants will be allocated either to Learn to Sail (LTS) or Intermediate (INT) group based on experience. Typical age suitability is 7 to 13 years old but is not restricted to this.

Requirements

Participants are required to:

  1. be able to swim at least 50 metres wearing a life jacket - (a test for this will be completed in the first session);
  2. attend all sessions along with at least one parent or guardian;
  3. be responsible along with their parent, for getting their designated boat rigged, unrigged (with assistance from coaches), washed and put away each week; and
