Australian Sailing New South Wales
NSW Health Covid19 Restrictions Presentation

Good morning;

Please find below the links to the presentations given at yesterday’s on the Covid changes for all community sports from the Chief Health Officer Dr Kerry Chant. Australian Sailing realise that this is going to affect members from all clubs, however we are currently in the Covid Pandemic, and this is unfortunately still going to have an effect on how we can run activities at our club for the next 6 weeks. Sailing has already been in the fortunate position of being able to return to sport a lot earlier than most other sports in NSW, and whilst this is an inconvenience for the next few weeks, the alternative for a community sport shutdown would be worse.

NSW Health have issued that recommendation to cease activities that result in the mixing of participants and staff from different regions, for example by ceasing training, racing, regattas and regional or state championships or competitions. Inter-regional mixing include activities which bring together participants (including spectators and officials) from organisations in different regions of Sydney, from a rural area into a metro area and vice versa, and movement between different rural areas NSW Health have requested for water-based sports in Greater Sydney (i.e. Sydney Harbour or beach-based sports), NSW Health have requested that there should be at least three (3) ‘regions’, determined by the SSO/SSOD, but ideally more. As per the request Australian Sailing have determined the following regions for greater Sydney.

This means for the next 6 weeks, that members from one area or region should not be attending community sport activities at a club in another area from where they usually reside. This has been requested due to the latest community transmission of Covid-19 within the community, with community sport being seen as high risk, in particular when considering the size of contact tracing requirements should a positive case of community transmission occur within the sporting environment.

I appreciate that this isn’t ideal with the start of the season happening over the next couple weeks for all clubs however this is an area in which working together will allow activities return to normal quicker. Should you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact me

Many thanks

Carl
