Commodore’s Call

October 2020

The official sailing season has now started with very healthy yacht numbers racing. Unfortunately, last Saturday’s race was cancelled due to excessive winds, as was LMYC & RMYC. The previous week was the first interclub yacht race (RKR) and congratulation to Garry Luxton and his crew in 2EZY who won the race overall.

Please get your entries in for Wednesday and/or Friday Twilight series, as races start this week.

COVID Restrictions

In order to comply with COVID restrictions all sailors are required to advise contact details of all persons on board during a race.  To do this, sailors are required to use their smart phone in photo mode and hover it over a QR code (which has been emailed to all and is also on the club website) and then key in their details. This can be done individually or can be done on behalf of the crew by the skipper. This must be done on the day of the race (not before) and applies to all races including twilight races. Failure to comply may result in penalties or a disqualification.

Membership for all Sailors

Just a reminder that all persons on a boat during a race must either be current members or hold a current “Sail Pass” which can be obtained online using the link on the club’s website. A person will be able to obtain the first 2 Sail Passes free of charge, if they require more, they can purchase a maximum of 2 more Sail Passes at a cost of $5 each. After that, they will be expected to take out a normal club membership.

It will be the responsibly of all skippers to ensure that all their crew are current financial members or current Sail Pass holders, as failure to do so can result in penalties or disqualification.

Safety Audit for Yachts

Most yachts have had their Category 7 Safety inspection, however there are still a few likely to race in our twilight series that have not done so yet.  Please note that all yachts must comply with this safety requirement before they will be permitted to race in club events. Please contact a club auditor ASAP to arrange for an inspection and complete the necessary paperwork which can be downloaded using this link:

Off the Beach, Juniors & Learn to Sail

The OTB sailors and the Juniors have all moved to Sundays this season. After a couple of practice races, their pointscore will kick off on Sunday 11 October. Online applications for the Learn to Sail program are available on the club’s website and to date have been very popular. The course is coordinated by Jason Dean (deanjason@hotmail.com) and will commence on Sunday 25 October and run for 6 weeks.
