Commodore’s Call January 2021

I hope you all had a good Christmas and a safe New Year. I think we are all pleased to see the end of 2020 and look forward to the new year. Unfortunately, COVID is still going to be with us for a while yet, however I think we can see light at the end of the tunnel

Sailing Club Christmas Party

The Sailing Club Christmas party was a sell out and a huge success. Thanks largely to the organisers and especially Stef & Trish and their band of helpers that did all the catering. Unfortunately, I was unable to make it, as I had to self-isolate, pending the result of my COVID test (Not good timing)

OK Regatta at Wangi

Thanks to all that assisted running the OK regatta earlier this month. It was a great success and although no longer classified as a National Championship due to border closure in response to COVID, the event was well supported with a fleet of 28 boats and some very high standard racing.

The regatta was actually renamed the “Glenn Yates Cup” in honor of Glenn who was sadly lost at sea in November. On the first day of the event we had a brief ceremony in memory of Glenn who was a past OK sailor, and this was attended by Glenn’s sister and some family and friends and of course all the sailors. Glenn’s sister Ruth was then asked to christen the new club RIB with champagne as it was named in Glenn’s honor.

Congratulations to the overall winner, Tim Davies from our club. Well Done!

Sailing Recommences

Yacht sailing begins this week with Wednesday, Friday and Saturday racing in full swing.

Make sure you have put your entries in and check your start time for the handicap start events.

Juniors and OTB start on the 24th of January, however the Northern NSW Zone Sabot Association will be having a training Day at our club on Sunday 17 January to get ready for the second half of the season.

Solar Power

The Club has recently installed a Solar Power system of the roof of the clubhouse. Not only is this a renewable energy source, it will also reduce the club’s electricity bills, so it’s a win win.

Next Monthly Meeting Thursday 14th January in the clubhouse at 7pm
