Commodore’s Call February 2021

Summer Sailing is now back in full swing with healthy numbers of boats competing which is good to see.

Learn to Sail

The second session for the club’s Learn to Sail Program commenced last Sunday morning. This group is smaller than what we had in the first half of the season, as the young sailors improve and move on to the intermediate level and ultimately the racing level. Big thanks to Jason Dean for coordinating this, along with his team of coaches.

Sabot States

This is set down for next weekend, the 13th & 14th of February at Dummoyne Sailing Club in Sydney. Quite a few Wangi Sabots will be competing in the event and we would like to wish them all well.

She Sails Regatta

RMYC is hosting a one-day regatta on Sunday 14 of February for any yachts helmed by a female. Crews can be male or female as long as the skipper on the day is a female.  This is part of a national initiative to encourage women to be more involved in sailing.

Heaven Can Wait Yacht Race

Sailors are reminded that this charity race is being held at RMYC on Saturday 20th of February. There is no yacht racing at Wangi that weekend to allow as many boats as possible to compete in this event, so please get your entry in ASAP.

Lake Fest Twilight Race

On Friday 26th of February Wangi Club is hosting a combined twilight race with LMYC & RMYC boats being invited to participate. This will be part of our normal Friday night pointscore, however it will involve an on-water start at 5.45pm, somewhere near Coal Point, but will finish back at our club. SI’s and Course details will be issued soon.

NSW Institute of Sport at Wangi

The NSWIS youth training squad will be running a 2-day training session for squad members at our club on the 27th & 28th of February. The squad includes 29ers, 420s, Laser Radials, Nacra 15s and Wind Foilers. NSWIS will be bringing their own coaches, coach boats and equipment but have booked the sailing club for off the water theory sessions.

RIB For Sale

As we have recently purchased a new RIB for junior training, we don’t have the storage capacity to keep the old one, so we are offering for sale. The boat is a 4.2 meter Zodiac with a centre console and has a 25HP Yamaha 4 stroke outboard and is on a registered road trailer. If anyone is interested or knows someone who may be interested, please contact me.

Next Monthly Meeting Thursday 11th February in the clubhouse at 7pm
