Australia Day Regatta
Once again, the Australia Day Regatta for yachts and trailer sailors, held at our club was well organised and well supported. Thanks to all those involved in the planning, the race management, the social side and the sponsors who provide most of the prizes. Well done.
Ladies Day
Unfortunately, Ladies Day had to be postponed due to the oppressive heat (40 + degrees) and the forecasted strong gusty NW winds. However, it has been re-scheduled for Sunday 22 of March when we hope the weather will be kind. Please don’t think that girls have to skipper for the whole race, it’s more about giving them a go on the helm, even if it’s only for a short time and will obviously depend on the conditions. There are no “Sheep Stations” up for grabs only “bragging rights” or should I say “nagging rights”. There will be food and BYO drinks back at the Sailing Club after the race, which is a social event is also a fundraiser for Ovarian Cancer Research, so please support it.
Yacht’s Pursuit Race Series
There was an oversight in printing the sailing program which affects the last race of the Pursuit Series (Race 7) This race will be sailed on Saturday 28 March (not 4 April). Apologies
Abandoned Yacht Races
There has been a fair bit of discussion regarding abandoned races, especially twilight races where sunset is the cutoff time. At this part-way time in the season, it was agreed to leave things as they are, but include a minor change to the scoring. As a result, there has been a change to the Sailing Instructions to ensure that the boats that start in a race that is subsequently abandoned are scored differently from those that did not start at all. Further discussion of how we handle twilight races will be put on the agenda for the next Sailors Meeting.
Ammendments can be found in the list of file availabe for download HERE
Twilight Race Friday 28 February
The Twilight Race (Summer series race 7) set down for Friday 28 February is part of “Lakefest” and will be a combined race with LMYC and Wangi clubs. The race, which is part of our pointscore, will start on the water near Coal Point and finish in front of WASC. Details as to start time and course will be circulated soon.
Social Lunchtime Cruise
We have planned to have a social cruise on Sunday 8th of March and luncheon. At this stage we are looking at going to Gwandalan Bowling Club for lunch. You can go by water (sail or power) or by road. The social committee will provide more details shortly, so please save the date.
Presentation Night
The Sailing Club’s Annual Presentation Night has changed slightly from the date shown in the program. It has been put back one week and will now be on Saturday 23rd of May at the Wangi RSL Club. Further details will be provided later but again, please save the date.
