Commodore’s Call December 2020
As we enter December, the festive season is upon us and I would like to wish you all a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. I think we would all agree 2020 has been a very tough year for everyone, so I am looking forward to a much better 2021
Regattas
Thanks to all that assisted running the OK states regatta and the 9er & Nacra states in November.
Both regattas went well both from a club point of view and a competitor point of view,
This coming weekend we are running the Moth Super Cup regatta and expect around 30 boats. I still have a short of a couple of volunteers on Saturday afternoon, so if you can assist please contact me ASAP.
We are also hosting the OK Dinghy National Championship from 3 to 8 January (Sun to Fri) and will also looking for volunteers for that event. Even if you could help out for one or 2 days. that would be greatly appreciated
New RIB
We have recently purchased another RIB to assist with our Learn to Sail Program, coaching and running races and regattas. It is a white Briggs 4.5 metre in very good condition. Our older Red Rib has now been repaired and will be advertised for sale soon as we have limited storage at the club. It will be sold with a 25hp Yamaha motor on a relatively new trailer, so if anyone might be interested in buying in please contact me.
Sailing Club Christmas Party
This year’s the Christmas Party will be on Saturday the 19 December grass in front of the Sailing Club as it will require a lost less work for the organisers and have the added advantage of being able to utilise the club’s facilities such as lights, canteen and toilets. The festivities will start at 1.30pm with a social non spinnaker yacht race around Galgabba & back. The party itself will start at 4.30pm with Santa arriving at 6pm. Our resident Chef (Steff) will cater for the event with pulled pork roles, salads and gelato ice cream and you will be given a drink upon arrival. Please BYO nibbles and drinks for the rest of the evening and your own chairs, as in the past.
The cost is $15 for adults and $10 for children.
Due to COVID, numbers are restricted, so tickets will be allocated on a first in basis. Please use the following link or go to the club website to purchase your tickets before they are all gone.

Regardless of numbers, no tickets will be sold after 13 December
Sad News
I was quite shocked to hear the news that long-time member, Glenn Yates was sadly lost a sea. Glenn had purchased a yacht in Tasmania a couple of weeks ago and was sailing it back to the lake by himself when he failed to report in on a scheduled radio sked. Air Sea rescue eventually located his yacht off Eden but when they sent a boat out and boarded it, sadly there was no one on board. Glenn was one of the founding members of Wangi’s OK dinghy fleet and he also ran the learn to sail program for a number of years at Wangi. In recent years he had been sailing an Impulse out of South Lakes club and volunteering as a Sailabilty instructor at Toronto. He had vibrant enthusiasm in everything he did, always loved to have a chat and will be sadly missed by all that knew him. On behalf of the club, deepest condolences to his family and friends.
Next Monthly Meeting Thursday 10th December in the clubhouse at 7pm
