Sailor’s Meeting
The annual WASC Sailor’s meeting was held on the 19th of July and was well attended. It was confirmed that the Juniors, Off the Beach and Learn to Sail will move their activities from Saturdays to Sundays this season on a trial basis. In regard to the yachts, there were only a few changes to the yacht program. The main ones were that the “Passage Race” series is renamed the “Scratch Start” series to give more flexibility in courses and it will be broken down into Division 1 and Division 2, so that different length courses can be sailed. All other series, apart from Inter Club events will remain with all boats competing on the same course in a single fleet. The Spring and Summer “Trailer Sailor” series where boats race on a single weekend (Sat & Sun) usually one per month will be renamed the “Weekend” series and will be open to both yachts and trailer sailors. The weekend courses to be sailed next season have been changed somewhat so make sure you are aware of the new courses. There will also be changes to the way boats outside the time limit are scored, to give a fairer race result, especially in Twilight races.
WASC Annual General Meeting
The club’s AGM was held on Sunday 26 July and was also well attended. The election of the Board of Directors for the coming year resulted in the following being elected. Tony Outteridge (Commodore), Colin Cain (Vice Commodore), Greg Searles (Rear Commodore) Lyn McAllister (Secretary) Ian Adams (Treasurer) & Steve Taylor (Finance Officer) All other positions were filled as well, which was good to see. A special welcome to Anthony Abbot who has taken on the role as Junior Captain.
The meeting also considered the new constitution which was duly voted upon and passed unanimously. Thanks for everyone’s assistance in getting this constitution finalised, in particular Diane Crosdale, Denis Gilbert and Steve Churches.
Garry Luxton as new Life Member
Congratulations to Garry Luxton who was elected as Life member of the club at the AGM. Garry has worked tirelessly for the club over many years, holding down a number of positions, most recent of which is running the Thursday Boys Club Maintenance Program. He has also helped out at countless regattas and even provided his own boat, “2EZY” as the start boat which has been extremely helpful. Thanks again for your support over the years which has been much appreciated.
Winter Retreat
The Sailing Club’s Annual Winter Retreat which will be held on Friday 21 August to Sunday 23 August at the Omadale Orchard Lodge near Moonan Flat is now fully booked out. In addition, we have a number of extras coming, who will be bringing their own caravans which is great. So, if you haven’t booked and want to join us in your own van, please call Lyn McAllister (0428 416 660) to book a van site.
Presentation Functions
Unfortunately, we have had to cancel both the Presentation Night function and the Junior Presentation due to COVID‑19 restrictions which has made it quite difficult for us to comply with. Hopefully we will be able to go ahead with our Opening Day breakfast ceremony and we will hand out prizes then. The Juniors are planning to hand out their prizes one Sunday morning when their season starts.
Safety Audit for Yachts
Our Equipment auditors would like to start the process of Category 7 Safety inspections. We would like as many as possible to get their boats to the new wharf at Wang on Saturday August 8 or 15 at 10am. Make sure you have checked all your equipment including your first aid kits and completed the necessary paper prior to the inspection. The Cat 7 paperwork can be downloaded using this link:

NSW Youth Championships Cancelled
Australian Sailing announced on Friday that the NSW Youth Championships set down for the October long weekend at Point Wolstoncroft has been cancelled due to COVID19 restrictions. This is disappointing as Wangi club was to run one of the courses and a number of our juniors were intending to compete in the regatta. Unfortunately, Australian Sailing has also cancelled the Australian Youth Championships which was scheduled in January in Perth for similar reasons.
August Monthly Meeting
This will be held on Thursday 13th of August in the sailing club commencing at 7pm
