Commodore’s Call April 2021
Congratulations
Well done to all those sailors that were fortunate enough to win some of the pointscore events. In addition, a big thankyou to all those that competed in these events and pushed their fellow sailors along. This year we have had very healthy yacht numbers in all series and the club has also been well represented in Inter Club events as well.
A Special mention to Noel Borel in “Kulani” for winning the combine RK Robinson interclub series. In fact, Wangi boats took all top 3 places with “Wright of Way” 2nd and “Snappy One” 3rd overall.
Ladies Day
Unfortunately, the Ladies Day race had to be cancelled due to some really bad and unpleasant weather. We seem to have had a rough time weather wise with this event in the past, so hopefully things will improve in future.
Sailors Meeting
The Sailors meeting for yachts held last month confirmed that the current racing program should be followed again next season. It was suggested that there should be some minor changes to some courses and a recommendation the RKR course should include some of the marks closer to Wangi Yacht sailors were also encouraged to apply for a “W” prefixed sail number to assist in promoting the club. This is can be done by contacting the Rear Commodore, Greg Searles and is free of charge.
Moth Nationals
The Wangi club will be hosting the Moth Nationals next Saturday through to Wednesday (10-14 Apr). We expect around 35 of this extremely fast foiling boats to be competing and I am sure the racing will be of a very high standard.
Sabot Regatta
With the support of Origin Energy, we are also hosting a regatta for Sabots on Sunday 30th of May. This will be the last chance for NSW Sabots to compete prior to having their boats loaded into containers to be shipped to North Queensland for the National Championships
Sailing Club Presentation Night
The Presentation night is set down for Saturday 22nd of May. It will be held at the Wangi RSL so please save the date. Tickets will be limited and need to be booked in advance. Further details will be provided later.
Winter Yacht Racing
Winter Racing starts on Saturday 1st of May and alternates each week between the Achinar Series (scratch start for spinnaker or non-spinnaker boats) and the Commodore’s Cup (handicap start for non-spinnaker boats only).
We are currently looking for people that could spend a little time of Saturday afternoon to help start and finish the races. No computer skills are required. Please contact Phil Mayo if you can assist.
Next Monthly Meeting Thursday 8th April in the clubhouse at 7pm
