Series
Number of WASC boats participating:
-
- RKR - 6
- W/L - 3
- Scratch - 10
- Pursuit - 15
- Jimmy Alan - 5
- Tom Crowley - 15
- Achenar (2024) - 10
- Commodore's Cup (2024) - 5
- Barcroft (2024) - 5
- Not too many Div 1 boats. Disappointing. We're thinking about getting back to one division.
- Waiting too long in Pursuit. Adjust the courses accordingly.
- We don't appear to have enough people for 2 divisions.
- Perhaps massage the size of the course.
- Winward Leeward
- Maybe three different sponsored races? Maybe off-the-beach boats included.
- Wangi would pull out of the W/L.
- The club would still provide sponsorship commitment.
Decision -
- Peter Horne (Yacht Captain) will send an email or call current skippers to see who plans to sail this winter and next season, asking what they want for next year.
- Peter will draft the email. Graham will send it to skippers via email or SMS.
- Graham to provide Peter with a list of phone numbers to Peter.
- Peter to follow up email with a phone call.
- Report back and make a decision on the way forward with respect to the following:
-
- One or two divisions and make recommendations to the Course committee.
- Windward/Leeward participation versus non-points score races
Regattas
- NSW Youth Championships on October long weekend
- Lasers (Nov 15/16) - will need volunteers
- Heron - 3-8 January
- Hobie Cats and Moths, but nothing has been committed as yet
- AU Day - 36 this year, 12 from other clubs, advertise earlier,
- It used to be part of Lakefest - RKR, AU Day, W/L, and HCW. Needed to sail in all events.
- Pick a course out to the other club parts of the bay
- 3 bay regatta?
- HCW
Courses
- Not many complaints
- Would prefer more courses stay in the bay for visibility to the public
- Rob, Pete, Graham to review and update courses
- Graham to differentiate the two sheets by colour
- Graham will put year on sheets to avoid confusion with other years
- Graham is to put the monthly calendar on the back of the course sheet
Website / Communications
- Graham to set up banner on the home page showing races this week/month
- Graham to implement a Crew page
- Graham to schedule another Try Sailing day close to the start of the season on the 30th of August
Sailing Instructions
- Clarify wording around average points and class events or helping a regatta
- Fins sailing with Yachts? Comply with OTB safety and carry/monitor VHF 77. The Club might be able to assist with radio needs - contact RO.
- Allow OTB for Wednesday and Saturday races only
- VHF mandatory, monitoring VHF 77
- Give redress to boats, helping other boats/crew in distress.
- Remind skippers there may not be a rescue boat.
- Tony to implement changes in next year's sailing instructions
Membership
- Everyone on the boat must be a member. The club and RO will monitor. Warnings will be given. We don't want to get into a protest situation or, worse, an incident in which the crew member is not covered by the AS accident insurance.
- This is a requirement in the Sailing Instructions.
- Prefer online process - less than 5 minutes if you have the information needed:
- Name, date sailing, address, and contact details are all that is needed.
Graham will print out a SailPass form and make it available to skippers. For any crew not already a member of Australia Sailing (i.e., have a current AS number affiliated with an AS member club), the form must be handed into RO at least 2 hours prior to the race.
Handicap
- Too long to get corrected
- HC is based on the average time for races in the previous year
Colin and Peter will work with Graeme on any potential improvements.
